Making Yacht Ownership
Dreams a Reality!
Offset the Costs of Yacht Ownership
In coordination with our partners in the USVI, BVI, or Eastern Caribbean, owners have the opportunity to offset their costs—or even make a profit—by purchasing their boat as a business and placing the vessel with a charter management fleet.

-
What is the typical wait time for a new yacht?Depending on the time of the year a purchase agreement is signed, there is typically a 6 to 12 month lead time for a new Lagoon to exit the factory. We do also have a limited number of owner models available in the US for immediate purchase and delivery.
-
What is the average time between ex-factory and delivery? If the boat is brought to BVI by cargo ship, you can expect delivery to take about 5 weeks. Typically, it takes 1 to 3 weeks before the cargo ship leaves France with the catamaran and another 2 weeks for the cargo ship to unload the boat to USVI or Guadeloupe. If delivered to Guadeloupe, it takes 2-3 days (depending on weather) to deliver the boat to the BVI or USVI. Delivery from France to a US mainland port takes about 5-6 weeks. If the boat is delivered by a captain and crew, on its own bottom, it normally takes 7 to 8 weeks for the boat to reach the BVI from France. While crewed delivery is marginally less expensive, it also carries greater risk - not to mention additional wear and tear on the boat.
-
What are the locations where my new boat can be delivered?Pretty much anywhere. The most common locations are the Eastern Caribbean, the US East Coast (Florida or Chesapeake Bay region). Some clients may choose to take delivery of their boat at the factory in France and spend time cruising the Med or do the crossing to the Caribbean or USA by themselves. Others decide to navigate the Med during the summer months and then leave the boat near the port where we take care of loading the boat onto a cargo ship to bring it to its final destination in the Caribbean or USA.
-
When and where do I get to inspect my new boat once it is completed? When your boat exits the factory, someone from Signature Catamarans will be in France to inspect the boat, verify all equipment and options are accounted for, and that there is no factory damage to the catamaran. At that time we will send you pictures and an inspection checklist we have completed and we will accept the boat from Lagoon on your behalf. Once the boat is delivered to your desired destination, your new catamaran will be presented to you and you will sign the final acceptance documents. At that time, we will also activate the boat warranty.
-
What is the warranty on a new Lagoon?2 years stem to stern, 5 years on the Yanmar engines (vs. 2 years for other brands), and 7 years against any structural defects.
-
Where can I get parts and have my Lagoon serviced?Lagoon has the largest network of sales, service, and support locations of any catamaran manufacturer in the world. They have 78+ dealers across 47 countries, resulting in unmatched access to warranty service, parts, and maintenance almost anywhere in the world. This is a huge advantage for Lagoon owners.
-
If I have any issues with my new boat, who will address those issues?Ward Yacht Sales and Signature Catamarans is your primary contact. We will handle all warranty claims and parts shipping between you and Lagoon. If the boat is being managed by a charter fleet, the charter company will handle warranty claims on your behalf.
-
What is the difference between bareboat and crewed charter?"Bareboat" charter means the primary guest who has reserved the charter will also be the primary operator of the vessel. No captain or crew will accompany the charter. The charter company will ensure the primary operator has received orientation and is comfortable operating the boat. This is the most common format for vessels under 50ft in length. "Crewed" charter means a professional captain and crew will be aboard the boat and will serve as the primary operators of the vessel. Crewed charter operation is generally required for all vessels over 50ft in length for insurance reasons.
-
What is the most popular model and layout for bareboat charter? There is no single answer. The max cabin layout versions may generate slightly higher charter bookings, especially on models over 46ft. On the other hand, owner’s versions tend to retain a higher value and are easier to sell on the used boat market. 46ft and under, the owner version might be a good configuration that you will enjoy more. For vessels over 46ft, we recommend choosing the ‘’in between’’ option whenever possible (ex. Lagoon 51, opt for the 5 cabin version, vs the 4 or the 6. On the Lagoon 55, we recommend the 5 cabin version with the owner suite on port side).
-
What is the most popular model and layout for crewed charter?Lagoon 55 to 67 offer a lot of comfort and a good return on the investment. They also attract a good crowd of potential clients, since they are the entry level of larger yachts for crew charter. For all those models, go with the 5 cabins version with one of the 2 front peaks having the crew charter option.
-
What add-on equipment/ options are required for charter placement? These are the must-haves on all Lagoon models that will be placed into a charter management fleet in the Caribbean. These options are also typically included in our price quotes: Comfort pack Water maker Air conditioning Generator Basic electronic package with AIS option All outside cushions option Hard top bimini Tender with minimum 15hp outboard At least one manoeuvring electrical winch Lazy jacks with stack-pack for mainsail Launch rigged and antifouling (that option also includes main anchor setup as well as fenders and dock lines) Extra fridge and freezer options that are available Extra water tank, if available Blinds and or curtains for cabins and salon
-
What trends are you seeing in charter demand? While there are rumors that charter demand is down industry-wide, our charter numbers have held steady. Customers will always seek out the higher level of service and our charter partners are the premier charter providers in the USVI and BVI. They are family friendly and maintain their fleet vessels to a high standard.
-
How realistic are the charter proforma estimates? All of our proformas are based on real-world charter performance for similar vessels in our charter partners' fleet. All the proformas include High, Average, and Low scenarios, which take into consideration most of the economic fluctuations we can reasonably anticipate. In some instances, owners may even exceed the high profile numbers, but should be prepared to live with the low profile estimates, if unexpected factors and situations occur. In short, charter management is an excellent way to offset the cost of yacht ownership or even making a modest profit.
